Arizona Quail: The quail of Arizona is a small foul-like game bird found in temperate and tropical regions throughout both hemispheres, and is found in Arizona in most of the 113,000 square miles of land within its boarders. The American quail, commonly called a partridge throughout the southern states, is slightly larger than the Old World quail and is non-migratory. The only eastern species is the bobwhite, Colinus virginianus. In the West the most familiar species is the California quail, Lophortyx californicus. Flocks of these birds live in semi domestication in city parts. Their plumage is grayish, with black and white markings on the face and throat and a short black forward curving plume on the crown.
